Liquid Telecom has announced a partnership with rally legend Ian Duncan that will see the IT firm unveil the driver’s new Liquid Telecom-sponsored car, a Group N Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, for the ongoing Kenya National Rally Championship.
The sponsorship is the first step in Liquid Telecom’s commitment to transforming the motor sport experience in Kenya and Africa by adding value and quality for the organizers, competitors, spectators and enthusiasts who comprise of the growing motor sport community, through the use of technology and connectivity.
Liquid Telecom will first enhance the rally experience by fitting GoPro cameras on the cage of Ian Duncan’s new car, which will capture live in-car footage that will be uploaded to an online public viewing platform, via Liquid Telecom’s very small aperture link (VSAT) uplink technology, at the end of each competitive section, making for a first in Kenya motor sport.

“This feeds into our plan to generate and deliver unparalleled content that will create a greater appeal to the motor sport. We are using our technology to advance one of the most exciting sports by partnering with the best competitors in the motor events to produce an enhanced, immersive rally experience.” Said Paul Statham, Chief Commercial Officer, Liquid Telecom Kenya during the unveiling of Ian Duncan’s Mitsubishi Evo X.
Liquid Telecom is also exploring options for delivering mainstream reach for its content with national and international TV partners, so as to give motor sport fans the same quality of entertainment enjoyed by fans of other sports.
Ian Duncan’s new car will make its rallying debut at the 2nd Championship rally in Meru, taking place this Easter weekend on the 4th and 5th of April.

“I’m extremely excited about the new car, its power and its rallying pedigree, as well as the plans to further raise the profile of the sport in Kenya with Liquid Telecom. I’d say the season is already looking up for all involved,” said Ian Duncan of the new car and the sponsorship.
Liquid Telecom participation in motor sport will immediately extend to the Rhino Charge, where they will be providing WI-FI access for competitors, organizers and spectators as well as sponsorship for Ian Duncan and a number of other rallying teams.
