LG’s penetration of smartphone market to be enhanced with durability

LG Electronics will be counting on durability to further penetrate the smartphones market.

The announcement was made in the recently concluded Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

“In spite of the evolution of smartphones, there are still a number of issues that plague handsets in general. One is actually the durability of smartphones. Which seems as though it is getting worse as smartphones evolve. As they become more stylish, they have also become more brittle and more prone to breaking or becoming damaged during normal everyday usage,” explained Moses Marji, General Manager Marketing LG Electronics.

The move comes after the successful debut of the LG V20 smartphone that was ranked among the most durable phones in 2016. The V20 passed drop tests conducted by an independent lab that conforms to U.S military standards, the results of which showed that the phone can survive repeated drops landing in a variety of positions.

This device which is powered by a quad core 2.15 GHz, Dual core, Kryo Plus 1.6 GHz Processor with 4GB of RAM was constructed using premium materials that are commonly found on high intensity movables like aircrafts, sailboats and mountain bikes.

“LG will keep its stylish look, usability and design for handsets but also ensure that our devices are able to endure all the day-to-day issues that a smartphone will face and regardless of the sophisticated environment of the customer,” added Marji.

The electronics giant is also planning to increase the IP rating of their smartphones. In addition to its smart technology and the IP rating, Battery life will also be a huge selling point for LG smartphones.

At CES earlier this month LG showed off its upcoming XCalibur smartphone which has an IP68 rating. LG’s forthcoming G6 flagship, expected to be formally announced at the Mobile World Congress in February, is also expected to be waterproof.
