Lawyers Hub Kenya Launches Africa Start-up Law Accelerator

The Lawyers Hub, in partnership with HYBR South Africa, GoDo Hub Nigeria, and Tech Build Africa, has launched Africa Start-up Law Accelerator.

This accelerator is the first of its kind in Africa and is premised on leveraging the law to help startups scale their businesses.

The program will support and promote startup growth by strategically combining the startup acceleration needs in strategy and business development with training on a legal strategy for startup growth, investor readiness, and sustainability.

Applications are open to pre-seed startups based in South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, and Tanzania for the pilot program, which is scheduled to run for 12 weeks in the first half of 2021.

The Lawyers Hub has also announced this year’s edition of the Africa LawTech Festival to take place from the 5th-9th of July, with the support of the Omidyar Network for the second year running.

The virtual edition themed Digital Policy for Economic Growth, will be centred around 5 summits: Internet Governance and Content Moderation; Startup and Trade Law; Artificial Intelligence and Ethics; Digital Identity; and Blockchain and Digital Currencies.

As a participant, you may attend summit sessions, facilitate a session, host a watch party or showcase a product. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to interact with peers in various fields of law and technology, offering their insights and experiences towards a shared goal of holistic and well-researched policies to build back better post-Covid.

The program will cultivate the next generation of digital policy leaders through its holistic learning experience. With the support of the Omidyar Network, the institute shall be at the forefront of shaping the future of Africa’s digital policy to be inclusive, responsive, and responsible.

The institute comprises an annual fellowship that will be tailored to meet the requirements expected of those already in the field of digital policy, and specially curated courses for individuals seeking to expand their knowledge in digital policy.
