President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated and forwarded to parliament for vetting the current Integrated Financial Management Information System-IFMIS Director Jerome Ochieng as ICT Principal Secretary.
Ochieng who since inception of IFMIS has managed the technology is geared to secure the plum job should parliament give him a positive node considering the work he has done since the launch of the e-procurement system in 2015.
Should he be formally appointed, he will take over the position from Victor Kyalo, who the president is likely to accord other responsibilities in view of the vibrancy that the sector had over the last five years.
Having a wealth of experience in the field of information and communication technology in the Public Service, Ochieng has a stint of 8 years’ experience rising within the ranks to the position of Asst. Director ICT in the Department of Government Information Technology Services (GITS). He also served as a Manager ICT with Public Procurement Oversight Authority (PPOA) for 6 years.

Having participated in a number of CIO East Africa forums, Ochieng, a holder of a Masters’ Degree in Information Engineering from the University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan appears quite set for the elevated position.
He is at the moment undertaking a Master’s in Business Administration from (ESAMI). He is a registered fellow of the Computer Society of Kenya (CSK) and a Licentiate Member of the Institute of Management Information Systems (IMIS), UK.
