Unlike the previous years where the form one admission letters were delivered in hard copy, this year, all successful candidates who have been admitted to national and extra county schools will get their letters of admission digitally.
This was said by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i during the launch of Form One Selection in Nairobi.
The move by the ministry is in an effort to improve transparency in the high school selection process. Matiangi’s explained that after downloading individual admission letters, candidates must present them to their respective schools where they sat the examinations for authentication.

“Because of the complaints that used to come from various parents, we were directed to the Office of the President to begin an electronic form of availing letters to the Form 1 students,” he said.
“This year I am very happy to state that we have done it. Candidates do not have to come to your school and wake you up at night because they can go online and get their admission letters. They can go to www.education.go.ke,” he stated.
About 24,795 successful 2015 KCPE candidates will be admitted to 103 national schools. The number that we have so far admitted to national schools is only a small fraction of the total of 942,021 candidates who successfully sat the KCPE this year,” he observed.

He further indicated that the letter, alongside a candidate’s birth certificate, will further be authenticated by the head teacher of the admitting secondary school.
“From there they can download their letters of admission to the schools. Parents can text their candidates or students index number to this short code 20042 and they will know their children have been selected and they can print the letters.”
He advised principals to be meticulous and confirm that letters presented to them belong to candidates who appear in their selection lists.

“For purposes of accountability, we limited the printout to only one letter. That is what we agreed to do. The system has been configured in such a way that you only print out the letter once,” he emphasised.
“The ministry shall endeavour to gradually improve the digitisation process with a view to bringing all the other categories of schools on board,” he said.
He indicated that reporting dates for Form 1 students selected to all categories of schools shall be January 9, 2017 and not later than January 16, 2017.
“The number that we have so far admitted to national schools is only a small fraction of the total of 942,021 candidates who successfully sat the KCPE this year.”
Dr Matiang’i further said the selection exercise for County and Sub-county schools will take place on 15th and 19th December,2016 respectively. The selection for Extra-county and county schools will be conducted at centres to be communicated to the county directors before the actual date. The Sub-county selection exercise will take place at all the sub-county levels.
