Justine Kosgei Appointed CEO Of AAR Insurance Kenya
AAR Insurance Kenya has announced the appointment of Justine Kosgei as its new CEO and Principal Officer replacing Dr Patrick Gatonga.
“The appointment marks a significant moment for our company as we continue with our transformative journey dedicated to serving our customers and meeting their evolving needs with innovative products. Under Kosgei’s leadership, we are confident in our ability to embrace new challenges and opportunities anticipating a positive impact on our company’s growth and success,” the Board of Directors said in a statement.
Kosgei joined AAR Insurance Kenya in November and assumed the role of Principal Officer in February 2023. As a key member of AAR leadership team, he has played a pivotal role in driving remarkable growth, with a 32 percent increase in revenue and a strengthened market share.

“Kosgei focus on profitability through optimized claim rations, efficient underwriting and strategic partnerships has contributed to the company’s impressive 83 percent growth in profit before tax,” the statement said.
According to the board, Kosgei, through close collaboration with the management has spearheaded growth initiatives in current and emerging markets, introducing new products such as SME Product, Budget Products, and shwAARi among others.
Prior to joining AAR Insurance Kenya, he has previously served in esteemed positions at organisations such as APA Insurance as a Divisional Director and UAP/Old Mutual Rwanda as Head of Operations. He has also at UAP Insurance as the Head of Products & Underwriting and Regional Technical Manager – East Africa and undertook a management secondment to Mutual & Federal in South Africa.

Kosgei holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Actuarial Science from Kenyatta University. He is a fellow of Life Management Institute (FLMI), an Associate of the Insurance Institute of Kenya (AIIK), and holds a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Section 4 certifications among others. Additionally, he has completed leadership courses at Harvard Kennedy School and the Aga Khan University. He is currently pursing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Science in Finance (MSC).
