Joel Karubiu has been appointed the CEO at KeNIC, taking over from Abdalla Omari who held the position since September 2014.
A statement issued by KeNIC Board chair, Prof Meoli Kashorda, said that Karubiu’s appointment takes effect from July 15, 2019, adding that the board considered the incoming CEO’s past experience in Business Development and Marketing as well as setting up of new business operations and start-ups. Karubiu is the immediate former CEO of Marketing Society of Kenya.
Prior to this, he served as a Division Head – Business Development with Arch Skills Kenya, a division of GEMS Education Group, from 2016 to 2017 and for over six years as the Business development Manager at PWC in Tanzania and Kenya. He established the Business Development division of PWC in Tanzania.

“With the launch of the Kenya Digital Economy Blueprint 2019 and National Broadband Strategy 2018-2023, the Board now has a new ambitious strategy bent on ensuring that KeNIC takes its rightful position as the enabler of the digital economy. We expect Mr. Karubiu to dramatically improve KeNIC’s performance and organizational health as one of the leading Country Code Top-level domain (ccTLD) registries in Africa,” the KeNIC board chair stated.
Karubui will be formally introduced to the Kenya Internet community and the organisation’s stakeholders during the 2019 KeNIC public stakeholders meeting set for August 22, 2019.
KeNIC manages and administers the dotKE (.ke) Country Code Top-Level Domain (.ke ccTLD) name. The organisation got this mandate after consultations with the local internet community.
