Joe Kanyua Rejoins Safaricom As Head Of Digital Transformation
ICT expert Joe Kanyua has rejoined Safaricom as the Head of the Department of Digital Transformation, marking a decade since his departure from the organization in 2013, where he previously served as the Manager of Strategic Projects.
In his new capacity, Joe will lead and manage Safaricom’s digital transformation strategy, as the company transitions from a telecommunications provider to a technology-driven entity. His responsibilities will include leveraging technology to enhance product development, business processes, customer experience, employee experience and business partner relationships, among other areas.
With over 18 years of experience in the ICT industry, Joe has spearheaded digital transformation projects across various sectors, including telecommunications, banking, insurance, commercial aviation, and the public sector. He has held leadership positions in global organizations such as Oracle, Atlancis Technologies, and SAP.

Prior to rejoining Safaricom, Joe served as the Client Engagement/Programs Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at Oracle, where he managed customer relations and other key responsibilities. Before Oracle, he held the position of Chief Technology Evangelist at Atlancis Technologies.
Currently pursuing a PhD in Information Technology from Unicaf University, Joe holds a Master’s Degree in Information Systems Management from the University of Liverpool and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Kenyatta University among other academic qualifications.
