Technology and innovation are said to be the bedrock of development in any growing economy. But will technology leap frog Africa’s development?
Albeit growth in developing countries like in the East Africa region has been slow, the adoption of correct and sufficient technologies is proven a bedrock for development.
This was elaborated during the East Africa IoT and AI summit held in Nairobi’s Radisson Blu hotel, a forum that hosted top notch technology industry practitioners.

Speaking at the forum, Jack Ngare, MD Managing Director for Africa Data Centres at Microsoft noted that it was time Africa innovated its way out of its problems and probably stopped seeking donations from developed economies.
“We need to be more deliberate about solving African problems using technologies like IoT,” said Ngare. Adding; IoT focus areas are made for the problems we face in Africa.”
Ngare, during his keynote presentation averred that many African problems only needed innovation interventions and not donations.

Harry Hare, Director CIO East Africa, who spoke earlier on at the exclusive CIO roundtable alluded akin observation, averring that the problems in Africa were but an avenue for innovation.
He said, “There is no better time to invest in IoT than now. All the problems facing Africa are opportunities for innovation and co-innovation.”
The two day summit shall be officially opened by the CS for ICT, Joe Mucheru.
