How digital transformation can be powered by Iot and AI

AI and IoT have the ability to spur on Digital Transformation especially when it comes to: healthcare, robots, drones, wind turbines, energy meters, or elevators, in order to get the best out of the two technologies they have to work together.

The two technologies work together in that IoT creates a tremendous amount of data and AI helps to track this data. During the CIO East Africa IoT and AI Summit, Geoff Brown, MD, Amazon Web Services, Sub-Sahara Africa, said that the technologies are coming together more often than not in this day and age.

“I want to make it abundantly clear the ingredients to create this result is available to every company on the planet and becoming easier and easier to implement, in fact I also recently read these solutions will continue to decrease in cost,” said Brown.

“But, this is not a technology opportunity as much as it is an Executive Vision, Company Education and Employee Culture challenge.  Without all four your journey to meaningful transformations will be slower,” he added.

In giving a good example of how the 2 intermarry Brown spoke on, Amazon Go, a new kind of store with no checkout required which opened in January 2018.

“So if you ask Amazon how AI and IoT combine to create Digital Transformation this is one example. Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by the same types of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. Our Just Walk Out Technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. When you’re done shopping, you can just leave the store. A little later, we’ll send you a receipt and charge your Amazon account.” Brown concluded.
