Giganet And Mart Networks Launch Edge Micro Data Centre
Giganet Networking Solutions have launched an Edge Micro Data Centre (MDC); a three single-phase models in a 42U thermal insulated glass cabinet 600 X 1200 X 2000.
By their very definition, micro data centres work where traditionally colossal data centres such as AWS (Amazon Web Services) and Microsoft Azure cannot work. It brings data centres closer to the clients, a quality that comes with its own set of advantages such as scalability, reduced costs, faster deployment all the way to low latency where the clients and server are geographically close.
Based on rack-mounted online interactive UPS power requirements, the models are GN-MDC-3Kva, GN-MDC-6Kva and GN-MDC-10Kva. The rack-mounted cooling of 3.5Kw (12000 BTU) is available in two models; an integrated cooling unit with no outside condenser for tight spaces, and a rack-mounted unit with an outside condenser unit. Provision has been made for both normal Vertical PDUs with C13/C19 plugs or Intelligent Managed PDUs with cable management.

Speaking on this new development, Morris Mellor, Technical Director, Giganet Network UK says that “We have been involved in the design and supply of data centre solutions to leading service providers in MEA (Middle East Africa) and are very excited to introduce our all in one Edge Micro Data Centre that can offer power, cooling, active and passive equipment including monitoring in one rack, allowing for optimum efficiency in processing data leading to reduced latency when connecting to a centralised data centre.”
MDCs range in size from a single 19-inch rack to a 40-foot shipping container and can come pre-furnished. Its beneficiaries include small offices, banks and retail outlets.

An Edge Micro Data Centre (MDC) is a medium-scale network cabinet that includes power (UPS), intelligent Power Distribution Units (PDU), rack-mounted cooling, access control, security and environmental sensors (temperature or humidity, door contact, alarm, water leakage etc.), all monitored by a data centre infrastructure management (DCIM ) which displays real-time data with alerts on pre-set parameters. This helps organisations have an accurate analysis of their edge MDC resources.

The term edge computing defined as computing on the edge of the network is computing capacity and storage closer to where the data is generated. In the context of IoT, edge computing allows the data to be processed closer to where the IoT devices are located. A “micro data centre helps edge computing get to its end goal. One can think of a micro data centre as the “how” edge computing is going to work,” breaks down Colocation America,
With that being said, edge computing brings the processing power closer to the data source. Edge helps improve the speed and overall performance of the data transport. And it improves the performance devices using the edge as well.
It also prevents possible congestion in the communication links when being transmitted to a centralised data centre either in the cloud or on the premises of a company and ensures an optimal response within the required times. By processing data and services as close to the end-user as possible, edge computing allows organisations to reduce latency and improve the customer experience.

Blanking plates are provided to close all the unused U-space to ensure no cooling is lost in the front of the cabinet and release of hot air at the back of the cabinet.
By their very definition, micro data centres work where traditionally colossal data centres such as AWS (Amazon Web Services) and Microsoft Azure cannot work.
A power distribution unit with circuit breakers is provided for power control. Emergency fans located inside the front bottom part of the cabinet are activated in case of the failure of the rack-mounted cooling. DCIM information is displayed on a 14” Android tablet with pre-installed DCIM software which can be viewed remotely via a web browser.
The environmental sensors are supported with a real-time display on the DCIM dashboard. A real-time alert is sent on all parameters to ensure immediate action is taken by IT support. An access control unit with an optional CCTV camera provides Physical security.
“We have partnered with Giganet on smart buildings infrastructure and data centre solutions and are now looking forward to launching the Edge Micro Data Centre and back-up power solutions in the region,” says Aunally Maloo, CEO and founder of Mart Networks Group.
The Giganet MDC has been designed as an open system to allow choice of UPS brands, rack-mounted cooling and intelligent Power Distribution Units (PDU) from Giganet or all leading vendors. This gives an option for a flexible retrofit on an existing cabinet.
The Giganet MDC comes with a three-year warranty.
