Finland will have a notable presence in Nairobi Innovation Week, including activities held in partnerships with local universities and organisations.
The event, which runs from 6 to 10 March, includes several seminars and events, Finnish Embassy officials said in a statement.
The timing is notable, said the Finnish ambassador, Ms Tarja Fernández.

“We are particularly excited to be kicking off the Kenyan celebrations of Finland’s 100-year anniversary as an independent state at the Nairobi Innovation Week by welcoming in CodeBus Africa,” she said in a press release. “This is a project to bring together innovators in tech and education from Finland and Kenya to teach young girls and boys coding in creative workshops”.
On 6 March, the embassy will host a Doing Business with Finland seminar, officials said, which will be attended by Finnish and Kenyan companies in the health, water, education and ICT sectors.
On 7 March, Finland and UNICEF will hold an event Creating Sustainable Solutions Through Partnership And Innovation In East Africa. This solution-oriented event will bring together people from Finland, the international community and the private sector to discuss shared-value approaches in sustainable development, the embassy said.

On 8 and 9 March, CodeBus Africa, a Finland 100 project organized by Aalto University, have an event with the Embassy of Finland, Tunapanda Institute and Nairobi University, officials said in a statement.
CodeBus Africa has been travelling through African countries organizing creative programming workshops aimed at teaching young girls and boys coding in a fun and accessible way, the statement added, noting that the CodeBus will also be organizing workshops later in the week in Kibera.
There will also be a Finland dome at Nairobi Innovation Week from 8 March, where people can meet Finnish businesses and institutions, and learn the nation’s innovation environment, officials said.
