Google Search Trends for the month of April indicate that Kenyans mostly searched Janet Kanini, a renowned news anchor and media personality following her passing on April 1st. Janet had fiercely fought lung cancer but finally succumbed to the illness on April 1st and was laid to rest on Saturday 8th April.
Second on the list of trending searches was IEBC Jobs. This was probably driven by thousands of vacancies published online by IEBC in preparation for the General Elections slated for 8th August 2017.
Football searches came in third,. Arsenal Vs. Manchester City, Chelsea Vs. Tottenham were some of the dominant searches under Barclays Premier and Champions Leagues while Real Madrid Vs. Barcelona was the trending search under Spanish La Liga.

Jubilee Nominations was the fourth trending search.
Top Restaurants Nearby took the fifth spot. The culture of eating out is increasingly becoming popular amongst Kenyans, especially youths. With the Burger Festival taking place in early May, Kenyans went online during the month of April, to possibly search for restaurants closest to them where they can order and buy food.
In mid April, the Government launched a web portal: www.delivery.go.ke to document and communicate to Kenyans the progress it had made since it took office in 2013. As such, the www.delivery.go.ke took sixth place in the trending searches for April.

Popular comedian Emmanuel Makori Nyambane a.k.a Ayeiya Poa Poa passed away in a car crash in the mid April. He is remembered as a comedian who often featured on the Churchill Show. Fans went online to find out more making Ayeiya the seventh trending search.
At eighth position was Anthony Joshua, a British professional boxer. His win against Russian heavyweight Wladimir Klitschko enabled him to retain his IBF world heavyweight title and won the vacant World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organisation championships.
Veteran politician David Mwiraria passed on at The Karen Hospital on 13th April. Born in 1938, the late Mwiraria served as a Minister of Finance.

Other trending search queries were Kiambu Nominations where Ferdinand Waititu defeated the incumbent Governor William Kabogo and TSC Tpad. which stands for Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development, is a TSC based performance appraisal programme for teachers and 30,000 school heads as a gateway to higher pay and promotions. The system was opened for all teachers between April 4, to April 20 while for the heads and senior appraisees, between April 21 and April 28, making TSC Tpad among the top Google search trends.
In the ‘Trending How to’ category, the most trending search was, “How to download music”- as Kenyans sought to find out how to download various songs while “How to buy Airtel airtime on Mpesa” came second. “How to make slime” was third. Slime is a safer homemade plasticine-like material that can be made for use as a toy.
Fourth was ‘How to make Chapati’ while “How to Kiss a Girl” and “How to Okoa Stima” took fifth and sixth positions respectively. In respect with job hunting, Kenyans also searched for “How to write a cover letter” making it the seventh in the “Trending How to” category. Lastly, “How to Pray” was the eighth trending search in the month of April.
