The Cabinet Secretary shared his thoughts saying that by improving its digital crimes unit, the Kenya Police will have shown it’s a modern organization.
“I would like to encourage police, and we are going to detail this conversation in government, to bolster the digital crimes unit within the police service,” Dr Matiang’i stated. “Later this week we (the government) are going to have meetings around this area, because we want to encourage the police department to rapidly mobilize and rapidly build collaborations to have a robust, reliable and effective digital crimes unit that’s what every modern police service needs.”
During the event, Dr Matiang’i noted that the nightmare shared by every country’s ICT ministry is the increasing threat of unmonitored online attacks.

“The truth of the matter that people will not tell you is that the worst nightmare for every minister of ICT in the world today is cybercrime.” Dr. Matiang’i.
The CS made the comments during the launch of the first Information Security Master’s of Science (Msc.) program in the region which is aimed at providing high level cyber security training targeting experienced security professionals.
The Msc. program is targeted at Chief Information Officers (CIOs), Network Security engineers, Information Security Architects, Incident Responders, Penetration Testers, Forensic Experts in Defense, Police Service, quasi government agencies and private enterprises. The program is set to begin taking in students on the 4th of May next year.

“Our objective is to convert the best resources we have in the country and region into high value experts in the field of information security to better face the threats against their enterprises and governments in the region,” he said.
