#Connectedke2017: Telkom Kenya to re-launch its operations in Kenyan market

This was announced by Aldo Maurese, CEO Telekom Kenya Limited today at the ongoing Connected Kenya Summit 2017 in Diani, Kwale County.

“This year, the theme of the Connected Summit is shaping the future. You might wonder why Telekom Kenya may be interested in re-shaping the future. Most of you think of us as a sleeping giant and a company of the past, being the oldest telcom company in Kenya, but we have so much in store,” he said.

He further stated that Telekom Kenya will also launch a 4G network and a new mobile financial service platform.

“This will have basic services at first and then many more new services,” he added.

The move to introduce the new platform comes at a time when, according to the latest quarterly statistics from the Communications Authority of Kenya, the total number of mobile money subscriptions was recorded at 31.9 million. The volume of transactions made was recorded at 456.6 million with over Ksh.1 trillion transferred among users. During the quarter, mobile commerce posted a total of Ksh. 262.6 million.

“The objective is to grow the financial inclusion of all Kenyans. All we want is to bring competition in a sector that really needs competition; that will be our contribution to shaping the future,” Maurese added.

He also said that, in partnership with ICT Authority and the Constituency development fund, his company has kickstarted the installation of 1160 incubation hubs in all constituencies across the countries.

“This will help develop ICT Skills and application bringing them to the digital world,” he said.

“We also have invested in infrastructure, datacenters and sub-marine cables to grow the telco infrastructure in Kenya,” he added.

“Most importantly, we have to deliver. We are looking forward to partnerships to see how we can deliver and grow the ICT Sector in Kenya and how ICT can help deliver this through a better regulation that will help us thrive in this sector,” he concluded.
