The Cloud and Security Summit agenda, chalk-full of topical issues, case studies and recent security research findings is finally out.

Even though the law seems as if it will affect individuals within the European Union alone, implications might be far reaching as organisations with EU citizens or with businesses that operate within the EU will also have to comply with the regulations.
GDPR addresses the export of personal data outside the EU. The GDPR aims primarily to give control back to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU.
According to the European Commission, “personal data is any information relating to an individual, whether it relates to his or her private, professional or public life. It can be anything from a name, a home address, a photo, an email address, bank details, posts on social networking websites, medical information, or a computer’s IP address.”

Cloud Security
Cloud has been constantly growing in Africa, and in 2016 Agilitude predicted that over the next five years, Africa will see rapid growth in its cloud service adoption, with a forecast of 42 percent growth a year.
With such a bright focus, one might think that all is fine and dandy with the cloud, but the truth is that there are some threats facing it with the main one being security and privacy hence the organisation of the summit by CIO East Africa in conjunction with the Rwanda Information Society Authority (RISA).
According to CloudTweaks, an authorities in cloud connected technology information and consultancy services:

“The main challenge to cloud computing is how it addresses the security and privacy concerns of businesses thinking of adopting it. The fact that the valuable enterprise data will reside outside the corporate firewall raises serious concerns. Hacking and various attacks to cloud infrastructure would affect multiple clients even if only one site is attacked”.
Enter Cloud computing security or, more simply, cloud security which refers to a broad set of policies, technologies, and controls deployed to protect data, applications, and the associated infrastructure of cloud computing. Learn more at the Cloud and Security Summit.
Taming fraud in mobile money
The rapid growth of mobile financial (MFS) services is arguably the single most significant contributor to increased financial inclusion in emerging markets today. It has facilitated access to cheap and reliable financial services to an ever increasing formerly unbanked population segment. Innovative mobile money services like M-Pesa in Kenya and Tanzania have grown into major payments services that move billions of dollars annually.
Unfortunately, MFS have also rapidly become a conduit for fraud and other criminal activity, this is according to CGAP (the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor) a global partnership of more than 30 leading organizations that seek to advance financial inclusion.
Various fraud types have been noted in key MFS markets, including consumer-facing fraud from agents and third parties, and fraud perpetrated against agents. Additionally, incidences of internal fraud have created significant economic loss for providers and affected a considerable number of mobile money users in these markets.
