In the IT world today, a lot of companies are adopting AI, or AI based applications to improve service delivery. With everyone getting onto AI, the question of AI Ethics arises, especially with the amount if data needed to train these AI models. A panel at the event discussed on how to strike the right balance between AI and Ethics.
Moderated by Dotsavvy Founder and CEO, Moses Kemibaro, the panel looked at the various aspects in the development of AI over the years. AI experts Michael Michie and Joan Mbesya who is also the founder of TechMindset, talked on whether AI should be looked at in an ethical persepective. Michie said that AI is just a tool that is used improve systems.

“Why do we need ethical AI guidelines. How many organisations have business ethical guidelines, AI is just a tool and we need to use it. Let’s use the ethical guidelines in business,” Michie remarked.
On the other hand, Naftal Nyabuto, the Chief Executive Officer of mZawadi Holdings Ltd, talked of his experience working on WakiliAI. Nyabuto said that working with lawyers to make the app as factual as possible was a real challenge.
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to evolve and integrate into various aspects of our daily lives, businesses, and industries, the ethical considerations surrounding its use have become increasingly significant. Striking the right balance between harnessing the power of AI and ensuring ethical practices is crucial for sustainable development and maintaining public trust.

The panel also consisted of Edwin Kemboi Sutter, Director, Digital Services, Directorate of eCitizen Services who talked on the givernment experience of using AI and leveraging AI models to better serve citizens. Amritpal Singh, Services Business Manager, HPE operated by Selectium, talked of how HPE empowers digital transformation through AI and sustainability. HPE deals with edge-to-cloud, enterprise compute IT, data, and security solutions.
The CIO 100 Symposium and Awards continues today with the Gala Dinner set to close the event in marvelous style.
