This year’s biggest cybersecurity event in East Africa is bound to be the Cloud and Cybersecurity Summit (CSS), held by CIO East Africa. Previously held in Rwanda by the Rwandan government in the month of March, it will be the first official Cloud and Cybersecurity held entirely by CIO East Africa. The Summit is manned by an Advisory Board who met on 4th March at Sankara Hotel Autograph Collection.
The collective comprises Laura Chite, CEO CIO East Africa, Humphrey Odhiambo, managing editor CIO East Africa magazine, Ali Hussein Kassim, Co-Founder and CEO Kipochi, who will moderate the panel discussion on The Workforce of the Future; shedding insight into the next generation of cyber specialists, working with millennials and preparing them all for the 4IR, CIO East Africa magazine columnist and CIO TripleOKLaw’s Michael Michie, and Joan Omanjo, ISO with Old Mutual, who will moderate the panel dialoguing on The Roles of CISO vs CIOs.

The Cloud and Security Summit will be officially opened by Monica Juma, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Defence. 2020’s Summit will be split into two full days: Day 1 on cybersecurity while Day 2 will be on cloud computing. The event features a carefully selected group of speakers and panelists who are not only well-versed with the industry, they are also authorities in their areas of specialty.
Key issues such as GDPR, and the Data Protection Act 2019, are expected to feature heavily in conversations as will regulators. For clarity on this, there sits a panel discussion on Emerging Tech, Data Protection Laws and the Role of Regulations. This will be moderated by Chairman, Publisher and Advisory Board member, Harry Hare. Adam Lane, Senior Director Technologies, Huawei, is set to deliver a talk on the unique nature of cloud: Moving From Knowing the Risks to Mitigating the Risks in Cloud, a talk that can easily break down software vulnerabilities and shared responsibilities between the cloud consumer and the cloud service provider (CSP).
Crowd favourite Dr. Bright Mawudor is expected to thrill the audience with his segment, Effectiveness of EDR: Combating the Next Level of Cyberthreats with Intelligence. In addition to this, one of the more exciting sessions will be live pitches by hand-picked cloud computing and cybersecurity start ups. With a list that is by no means exhaustive, Laura adds, “After a 2 year stint in Rwanda, The Cloud and Security Summit comes back to Kenya. We have taken time to put together an agenda that is relevant to the current technology landscape locally. This time round, we are also looking at innovation in the Cloud and Security areas. Our audience drive is focused on technology decision makers, CISOs, CIOs, CEOs. We are thankful to our current partners who are core in making this 2 day Summit with 150+ delegates a success.”
