Breaking: Government Of Nigeria And Gitex Sign MoU To Establish Gitex Nigeria
In a landmark agreement, the Government of Nigeria and Gitex have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish Gitex Nigeria. The announcement was made at a briefing held during Gitex Africa in Marrakech.
Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), highlighted the significance of this partnership, emphasizing the role of Information Technology (IT) in enhancing productivity across various sectors in Nigeria. “By leveraging IT, we can significantly boost productivity in other sectors, driving economic growth and development,” Abdullahi stated. He further noted that Gitex Nigeria will provide a platform for the country to showcase its innovations and export them to the global market, attracting investors and fostering investment opportunities.
Trixie LohMirmand, Executive Vice President of Dubai World Trade Centre, organizers of Gitex, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. She underscored the importance of increasing the presence of Nigerian startups at Gitex events. “We aim to have more Nigerian startups participating in Gitex, diving deep into exploring opportunities in areas such as AI, Future Finance, and Health. This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s national tech agenda and will open doors for Nigerian startups to access platforms in Africa, Dubai, and globally,” LohMirmand remarked.

The signing of the MoU marks a significant step towards integrating Nigeria into the global tech ecosystem, offering new avenues for innovation, collaboration, and economic growth.
Gitex in Nigeria shall spotlight the country’s exponential growth sectors in AI, Future Finance, Digital Health, Start-ups and Scale-ups. It will integrate the Nigerian tech ecosystem firmly into Gitex Africa Morocco and extend its reach into Gitex Global in Dubai and Gitex Europe in Berlin.
Reflecting core critical sectors aligned to the national digital strategy, Gitex’s most popular co-located shows will be introduced with the inaugural edition, including AI Everything Nigeria, North Star Nigeria for Startups, and the Gitex Health Tech 5.0 and Gitex Future Finance 5.0. The eagerly expected tech event will amplify in-market potential in the region’s fastest emerging country, with economic performance to grow 11.2 per cent in 2024 according to the African Development Bank.
