The African Women in Fintech and Payments (AWFP) in conjunction with Talent In The Cloud shall be hosting the first ever conference on the 29th November 2019 in Nairobi, to enhance diversity and inclusion.
The full day event at the Villa Rosa Hotel, aims to bring together both women and men working in fintech and payments and will feature interactive panels, deep-dive question and answer (Q&A) sessions, debates, keynotes and plenary sessions with industry experts to build a positive arena whence women can come together to discuss issues relating to gender gap in the work industry particularly in fintech.

“Women have always geared towards sealing the gender gap in fintech and general work industry without desired results yet. This conference is meant to heighten the push for diversity and inclusivity into the sector,” said Laura Chite, CEO CIO East Africa and a speaker at the AWFP.
Up for deliberation at the one-day conference include and are not limited to; leadership, payments, personal branding, talent, innovation and the gender pay gap.

Whereas the gender pay gap will discuss how companies can create processes and steps to allow for recording, monitoring and comparing pay between genders and the steps needed to close the gender pay gap, leadership will talk all matters top positions including getting more women in leadership and board roles and the steps needed for its attainment.
Talking about diversity and inclusion, Martha Mghendi-Fisher, the Founder for European Women Payments Network (EWPN) & African Women in Fintech & Payments (AWFP) said, “By not embracing diversity and inclusion, organisations are missing out on tapping into the unique aspects and expertise that diverse teams bring.” Adding; “While many organisations have departments that handle diversity and inclusion, majority of such departments are just lip service.”

Also up for deliberation include a well coiled topic; male allies.
The financial sector, like many other industries, is still male dominated with key and leadership positions held mostly by men. This as AWFP vows, is a shift at the brink of happening; Next is now.
Also aligned to speak about women and budding more of them into the work space is the HerNovation forum, slated on the 20th November 2019 at the Lake Naivasha Resort, which aims to host the female tech professionals from across East Africa.
