“On March 21, ten years ago, it began with a single Tweet. Since then, every moment of every day, people connect about the things they care about most — all over the world,” reads a post on the official Twitter blog.
The tweet that kicked of this revolutionary social networking platform was fittingly posted by its CEO and co-founder, Jack Dorsey, who with the click of a few buttons came up with the statement: “just setting up my twttr”, Dorsey tweeted in 2006. Since then the micro blogging site has evolved to a tool that is used worldwide; shown by the fact that, as of May 2015, Twitter had more than 500 million users, out of which more than 332 million are active.
As the site celebrates its 10th birthday, this CIOEastAfrica writer, saw it fitting to take a look at the impact the first ever tweet made when it was posted.

The simple grammatically incorrect 116 letter tweet posted by Dorsey in 2006 garnered; 73,860 retweets and 52,800 likes.
The tweet also started a conversation; as people responded to it, over the years, in different ways with some even getting responses from the CEO.
Some of the responses are as follows:

One user by the handle @HAlanScott (on Feb 10th 2016) replied to the tweet posting: “@jack @drew honestly, half of the great things that have happened in my career are because of Twitter”. The Twitter CEO, by the handle @jack, in response tweeted: “@HAlanScott @drew that’s awesome”.
Some responses to the tweet are as recent as having been posted today (21/3/2016), for example one Twitter user who goes by the handle @horn tweeted:
“Happy birthday, @twitter! Happy birthday, @jack! Thank you for everything! #lovetwitter #twitter10”, in celebration of Twitter’s milestone.

As we celebrate Twitter’s 10th birthday in present day, the people behind the social media site have decided that they will use the time to celebrate the people who utilise their platform.
“As we mark this milestone, it’s you we want to celebrate. As March 21 begins around the world, each of our global offices will kick off the day by showing our appreciation and gratitude — starting in Sydney and following the sun to headquarters in San Francisco. We are excited to celebrate with all of you,” a post on Twitters official blog read.
Twitter users, on their part, are celebrating the site’s birthday by using the hashtag: #LoveTwitter.
