Anthony Gacanja Appointed Director, Network At Safaricom
Former Central Bank of Kenya Director of Information Technology, Anthony Gacanja, has landed firmly on his feet with a new appointment at Safaricom.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Anthony Gacanja as Director, Network, effective 19 June 2023. Reporting to the Chief Technology & Information Officer, Anthony will be responsible for the design, build, rollout, performance, and enhancement of all network infrastructure. His primary focus will be delivering a superior quality of service to Safaricom customers. He will also be responsible for managing the delivery of existing Information System Services and the implementation of new systems.”
The appointment of Gachanja as the new Chief Technology and Information Officer (CTIO) brings him back to Safaricom where he was before he joined CBK. As the CTIO, Gachanja will oversee the strategic direction and management of Safaricom’s technology and information systems. He will be responsible for driving innovation, ensuring seamless connectivity, and delivering exceptional customer experiences in the rapidly evolving telecommunications industry.

He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role, having previously served as the Director of IT at Safaricom.
With a proven track record of delivering transformative technology solutions during his tenure as the Director of IT at Safaricom, his leadership is evident. His strategic vision has been instrumental in implementing various initiatives that have enhanced the company’s digital capabilities and improved operational efficiencies.
Gacanja brings onboard over 20 years’ experience in Information Technology Governance and Operations, Cyber Security, Information Risk Assurance and Software Development. He brings a deep understanding of technology trends, digital transformation, and network optimization strategies. His expertise will be crucial in Safaricom’s journey towards building a robust and future-ready telecommunications infrastructure.
