The Africa Internet Summit (AIS), an annual, regional, multi-stakeholder ICT conference, organised by AFRINIC (the Internet Numbers Registry for Africa) and AFNOG (Africa Network Operators Group) officially kicked off in Nairobi, Kenya yesterday.
The event was officially opened by Kenya’s ICT, PS, Mr. Sammy Itemere, at the Boma Hotel in Nairobi. The event was described as an educational and business ICT event in Africa where key players in the Internet industry can interact with the global Internet community.
The event was divided into two parts, Workshop & Tutorials, which were conducted from 21st to 28th May, and a conference which kicked off on the 29th and will end on the 31st of May.

Launched in The Gambia in 2012, the Summit consists of seminars, workshops, tutorials, conference sessions, birds-of-a-feather (BOFs), and other forums for sharing ICT knowledge within the African region.
The range of topics at the event spans mobile networking, applications, cybersecurity, cyber laws, Internet governance, ICT for development, research, civil and information society issues, and African ICT success stories.
“This is an open platform for everyone. Join your peers as well as business and technical leaders for the Africa Internet Summit – the place for sharing knowledge and networking within the Africa ICT community,” reads a statement on the events official page.
