The new offer dubbed “Tubonge”, targets Kenyans from all walks of life that rely on making calls as their preferred mode of communication.

The move by Airtel comes at a time when the Communications Authority’s first quarter sector statistics report for the Financial Year 2016/2017 stated that voice traffic had increased significantly by 18.2 percent to 10.8 billion minutes last quarter, up from 9.2 billion minutes posted during the previous quarter. The regulator attributed this to special offers and promotions carried out by the operators.

According to the sector statistics, Airtel Network Limited’s mobile voice traffic also increased to1.48 billion minutes up 1.42 billion minutes posted the previous quarter. It lost marginally in the voice traffic market share for by 0.1 percentage points to stand at 13.8 per cent.

Speaking at the launch event, Airtel Kenya CEO, Prasanta Das Sarma stated that Tubonge is aimed at making the lives of the local Wananchi easier as it offers affordability and convenience thus making Airtel the preferred telecommunications service provider.‎

“Our customers remain at the core of our business and as such we are delighted to be launching a product that will in essence make their lives simple by giving them value for money while meeting all their communication needs. We endeavor to keep giving our customers the very best products and services that will positively impact their lives.

Airtel, will offer three Tubonge offers, a daily offer for Kshs.10, a weekly offer for Kshs.50 and a monthly offer that goes for Kshs. 150. All Tubonge offers come with 100mins for Airtel to Airtel calls per day and a 2 shillings calling rate to any other network.

To opt in on the new offer, customers get to dial *544# and choose the first option which gives them the various categories for daily, weekly or monthly offers. For instance, for Tubonge 10, dial *544*10#

The launch of “Tubonge” continues to stamp Airtel’s commitment to offer innovative and value for money products and services to its customers.

“We will continue to heavily invest in the Kenyan market and ensure that our customers enjoy affordable and innovative products and services,” concluded Mr. Prasanta.

Airtel also stated that Tubonge will be available to all new and existing prepaid customers.
