Airtel Africa Foundation Launches Tech For Her To Empower Women
Airtel Africa Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Airtel Africa, has rolled out “Tech For Her,” a new program aimed at equipping young women in Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia with the tools to succeed in technology-driven careers. The training, delivered fully online over five weeks, blends practical learning with mentorship and opportunities to step into the job market.
The curriculum covers three core areas; Linux Administration, Cybersecurity, and Data Analytics, with more than 100 hours of guided learning. To ensure the program fits different lifestyles, working participants attend weekend sessions, while those not in full-time work join weekday classes. Candidates must have basic computer literacy and hold at least a National Diploma or its equivalent in science, technology, or a related subject.
Graduates are guaranteed a full year of ongoing development to deepen their skills. Women who score 90 percent or higher will earn internships with Airtel Africa and receive mentorship from leaders in the technology industry.

For Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, Chair of Airtel Africa Foundation, the vision behind Tech For Her is about more than just education. “Africa’s digital revolution cannot reach its full potential without gender equity. The Tech For Her program helps to level the playing field by providing women with industry-relevant skills, mentorship, and pathways to high-growth tech roles around the world. By investing in Africa’s women, we are investing in sustainable economic transformation.”
The program is deliberately designed to reach women who might otherwise be left behind. Thirty percent of the available spots are set aside for those in rural or underserved areas, while 40 percent are reserved for applicants from low-income households.
Annika Poutiainen, a member of the Foundation’s committee, stressed that Tech For Her is part of Airtel Africa’s broader push to change that picture.

In running this program, Airtel Africa Foundation is creating a pipeline of female tech leaders who will help unlock the vast digital opportunities both at home, in Africa, and further afield.”
