Following the start of the Slush Global Impact Accelerator Kenya pitching event, which was held on 17th August, at the iHub, three startups were selected by a panel of judges to move to the next level, where they will compete for a chance to represent Kenya at Slush 2017.
Per a post on iHub’s official website, the event pitted seven startups against each other for a chance to represent Kenya at the Global Impact Accelerator Program, Slush 2017, which will be held in Helsinki in Finland from 22nd November – 2 December 2017.
“The panel of judges consisted of; Ramses Malaty –Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland, Njoki Gichinga – Sales and Partnerships Director at the iHub, Michael Gray – Digital Entrepreneur coach and mentor, Traction Camp, Sami Husa – Communications Officer, Embassy of Finland Nairobi and Nyasha Mutsekwa – Digital Entrepreneur coach and mentor, Traction Camp,” the post stated.

“The judging panel based their decision on; sustainability and potential to scale, market traction of the startup, composition of the team, potential for measurable positive impact on people, society, or planet of the startup,” it added.
The three startups that will be proceeding to the next stage are;
Gawana- a ridesharing mobile platform, in East Africa, that connects travelers, allowing them to share long-distance journeys and split the cost of fuel.
MobiTech Water Solutions- who have developed Mobi-Water, an affordable remote water solution that allows communities, businesses and water providers to monitor real-time water levels in tanks/reservoirs in any location on their mobile phones.

Bridify Connect Africa- an artificial intelligence emergency service (Ambulance Request) based system that helps people request for emergency rides whenever they have an emergency.
“The shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the Slush Selection Committee for an interview. The final decision will be made by the selection committee based on the application form and interview,” the post continued.
Slush Global Impact Accelerator is a program created in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and multiple partners globally. The purpose of Slush is to create a leading global program to support startups that are looking to solve some of the most pressing global challenges and contributing to the discussion on impact investing.
