Airtel claims CA board member demanded cash
A Board member of the Communications Authority is behind the push for Airtel to be forced to pay Sh2.7 billion, after he unsuccessfully attempted to extort money from the telco. Wilbert Kipsang Choge faces an acrimonious exit from the CA, following a decision last week by other Board members to write to Information, Communication and Technology CS Fred Matiang’i to protest his unprofessional conduct and seek his removal.

Orange modem customers receive new data offers
Orange Telkom Kenya has revised its data offering for its pre-paid Internet on Mobile and Internet Everywhere (modem) customers. Company Chief Corporate Communications Officer, George Mlaghui, says subscribers are now able to purchase new data bundles of 400 MB and 1GB at Kshs 250 and Kshs 500 respectively under the Internet on Mobile offer.

During bidding, Webtribe had indicated that they teamed up with the Kenya Commercial Bank but the bank refuted the statement. Bidders who were found not to have teamed up with a financial institution were disqualified. The auditors found that the two other companies that qualified to the financial evaluation- Virtual Mobile and Craftsilicon- had bid to charge 2.5 per cent of the transactions as the fee, the same rate the Kenya Revenue Authority would have charged had it been given the job.
