National ICT Innovation Forum set for March 3-4 in Nairobi
The National ICT Innovation Forum is set for early March and will see industry players for 2 days at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, Nairobi. The event will engage stakeholders in exploring the needs of the innovation ecosystem and come up with ways to address barriers in the market.

The forum under the theme ‘Mind the Gap. Close the Gap’, will feature thought leaders as well as showcase the latest ICT innovations in the market. The objective of this forum is to bring the ICT community together to review the ecosystem and identify issues hindering growth of this industry.

Microsoft has launched an online and retail consumer campaign dubbed #MakeItHappenEA that aims to empower customers to share their life-long desires, and if selected, get once in a lifetime chance to turn them to reality.

The two months long campaign was launched at an exclusive invite only party held at the Ebony Lounge and seeks to celebrate the thrill of turning people’s inspiration into reality. #MakeItHappenEA campaign will turn three winners’ dreams to reality and one overall lucky user will win an all-expenses paid trip with 3 friends to attend a concert in South Africa.
Airtel, UP Magazine partner to award key change-makers
Airtel Kenya has partnered with UP Magazine to launch an award ceremony with an aim of recognizing Kenyan change-makers, CapitalFM reported.

Dubbed ‘Design Thinking’ (DXD- Disruption by Design), the award looks to reward innovative elements in Kenyan society in various categories which include Architecture Design, Communications Design, Fashion Design, Interior Design, Interactive Design (web, gaming and mobile interfaces design), Tech Design, Product Design (designs that improve life), and Green Design (designs that enhance the environment).
Nakumatt issues cheques worth Kshs 43 million in ‘Smart Points’ payout
More than 3,000 Nakumatt shoppers have received school fees cheques valued at more than Kshs 43 million, drawn out as part of their loyalty points’ redemption with the retailer.
This first academic term, Nakumatt Holdings, has been redeeming its loyal customers Smart Points at the rate of Kshs 2 with a 10 per cent added bonus as part of an initiative to support educational development.
No plans for 3rd BSD licence – Communications Authority
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) says it will not issue a third Broadcast Signal Distribution (BSD) license any time soon as earlier expected. The authority’s chairman Ngene Gituku says CA only planned to issue two licenses, which is in line with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) policy agreement.
As with many countries, Kenya’s television market is migrating from its current analogue platform to digital in keeping with the 2015 international telecommunication union deadline when all analogue signal transmission will cease.
Having ratified ITU’s Convention which obligated its members to migrate television signal transmissions from analogue to digital, the country is set to meet this deadline by June 17 this year.
