We are committed to staying true to our mission of connecting people that make Kenya move.
This was said by Aldo Mareuse, CEO of Telkom Kenya during the re-launch of Telkom Kenya’s consumer facing brand from Orange to Telkom, a move the telco terms as ushering in a new chapter in the country’s oldest telecommunications company.
The re-launch of this new facing brand comes almost 12 months after the exit of the immediate former majority stake holder, the Orange Group following its majority stake sell-out in the Kenyan Telco, to the UK Private Equity Firm, Helios Investment Partners completed in June 2016.

As part of the re-launch, Telkom will now roll-out its 4G network across all major towns in Kenya, beginning with nine towns which include, Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Meru, Embu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nyeri and Kisii.
The roll-out will see Telkom customers enjoy free daily data during the launching period. So far, Telkom has commissioned about 160 4G sites across the country and is the second telco company to avail 4G coverage after Safaricom.
“Over the last one year, Telkom has invested Ksh 5 Billion, in upgrading and intensifying its network. In addition to the newly launched 4G Network, the telco has also enhanced its 2G and 3 G footprint, with the 2G footprint network standing at 95% while 3G is at 55%,” said Mr. Mareuse.

Mr. Mareuse also pointed out that the 4G will be supported by significant investments in fibre optic undersea cable as it takes stakes in TEAMs, a 5000 kilometre undersea fibre optic cable, LION2, a 2700 KM cable and in the East Africa Submarine System cable. The company will operate its 4G Network on a trial basis licence.
Coming in the heels of the launch of Telkom’s 4G Network, Telkom has also entered the home broadband segment with the introduction of a home data offer dubbed the “Home Plan” for its home users with 4G.
Through -out the launch period, Telkom subscribers will also be able to enjoy free daily access to WhatsApp. Subscribers will be able to call, chat, and share videos on the platform without any charges to their data consumption.
