Vodacom Tanzania paid Tshs 46.4 billion/- in corporate tax during its 2014/15 financial year which ended on March 31.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam, Vodacom Tanzania’s Managing Director Rene Meza said that in addition to the corporate payment, the company also collected over Tshs 108.6 billion/- in VAT, Tshs 99.5 billion/- in Excise Duty and Tshs 81.5 billion /- in other duties and taxes which it collected on behalf of the government.
Over and above the 46.4bn/- paid during the 2014/15 financial year, Vodacom also paid Tshs 47.1 billion/- in Corporate Tax in the 2013/14 financial year and was declared the second largest contributor to government revenue as well as the top taxpayer in the telecommunications industry.

The top three contributors to the government’s revenue last year were: Tanzania Breweries Limited, Vodacom Tanzania Limited and the Tanzania Cigarette Company limited respectively.
Meza who was presenting an overview of his company’s performance in 2014 and his outlook for 2015 said, “ Vodacom Tanzania Limited remains committed to playing a key role in the development of the telecommunications sector in Tanzania and had invested in excess of Tshs 1.8 trillion/- in the country to date . We have earmarked 200bn/- for investment in 2015 which will be spent on the enhancement of existing technology as well as the deployment of world class innovative products and services in the market,” he said.
He said Vodacom covers approximately 90% of Tanzania’s population and currently has over 3300 sites that provide communication services across the country that allow a lot of Tanzanians to be active players in the digital space.
