US Government to support Kenya’s digitization projects in the Big Four Plan

The United States Government has committed US $ 500 million to support Kenya’s National ICT Network – a government digitization project.

In a joint Government-to-Government announcement the US and Kenya announced their first project for intended collaboration under the June 2018 Kenya – US Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) lined to focus on implementing strategic infrastructure and Big Four priority projects.

The project is to develop a nationwide integrated digital information and communications technology infrastructure for the Government of Kenya.

The project affirmed from bilateral front on the wake of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit to the US on invitation of President Donald Trump largely purposed to focus on Kenya’s Big Four Agenda aimed at improving livelihoods, creating jobs and grow the economy of Kenya by focusing on critical areas of our economy in the next five years.

President Uhuru urged the US Government to support the implementation of the Big Four plan and observed with delight the steps taken by Bechtel International to set their African Headquarters in Nairobi and their readiness to commence construction of the Nairobi – Mombasa toll Road.

The Governments’ intended collaboration will include identifying American companies that can provide the full range of solutions for the project, and determining a tailored package of US Government financing and technical support.

While the Ministry of ICT and Technology shall be hands-on the deck on the project on behalf the Kenyan government, the US Export–Import Bank along with the US Trade and Development Agency shall oversee its deployment on behalf of the US government.
