A coast based innovation hub, Swahilipot, in an effort to foster innovation and create sustainable solutions in the region has hosted the 2019 Pwani Innovation Week.
The annual forum, in its second year running, is a consolidated effort by the Hub and its partners and intends to create a widespread culture of innovation in the coastal region as well as enhance the development of innovative ideas and capabilities especially among the youth residing in the region.
“This year we will have representation from all the six coastal counties, (Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Mombasa, and Taita Taveta), said Swahili Pot Hub Board Chairman Mahmoud Noor. Adding; “With our partners, we have committed to providing much sort skills to youths and residents, who ordinarily would never have access to the resource people we have assembled from around the country and globally.”

The event was officially declared open by the Deputy Governor, Mombasa County, Dr William Kingi who noted that emerging technologies are changing the way people engage, work and do business thus should be leveraged on for the betterment of human life.
The five day event started on the second of december and shall run through to 6th, culminating into the Blue Hackathon that will thereafter lead to the Jumuiya Agriculture and the Blue Economy Investment Conference (JABEIC).
Represented at the forum include, Susie Kitchens the Deputy High Commissioner and Permanent Representative to the UN Environment Programme, Harry Hare, the Chairman and Publisher at CIO East Africa, Michael Onyango, a Thought Leader of 4IR, Divine Muragijimana, the Chief of Brand at Cellulant Joe Mucheru, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of ICT, Prof. Bitange Ndemo the Chairman, Distributed Ledgers and AI Kenya and Miss Laura Chite, CEO CIO East Africa among others.

The forum largely discussed policy implications and investment opportunities available in the Coastal region and how to cater to the wide range of demographics and interests in the coastal region with regards technological innovations.
The partners of the second annual Pwani Innovation diversely include, Cellulant, Seacom, Huawei, Cisco, Liquid Telecom together with the government and non-government agencies such as the ICT Authority.
