Safaricom data revenue increases thanks to daily data bundles

Safaricom’s mobile data revenue, which accounts for 10 percent of its service revenue, grew at 40 percent thanks to increased uptake of data bundles which is now available in daily, 7 day, 30 day and 90 day bundles.
This announcement was made today during the Safaricom’s half year Financial Results by Safaricom CEO, Bob Collymore. He said that there was a 25 percent growth in 30 day active mobile data customers to 13.1 million and by 30th September 2015 they had 4.8 million customers on 3G enabled devices of which 4.1 million were smart phones.
There has been a drastic increase in accordance with 30th September 2015 which has a 40 percent growth in mobile data revenue to Kshs 9.2bn compared to 30th September 2014 which had the mobile data revenue of Kshs 6.50 billion.

Safaricom CEO, Bob Collymore further said, “We will continue to execute our strategy by putting our customers first, providing relevant products and enhancing excellence in our operations. Core to this, to continue to build the best network for our customers including 2G, 3G, 4G, Wimax and Fibre.”
He later added that, “Mobile data is our fastest growing revenue stream and we will focus on increasing the numbers of 3G and 4G smart phones on our network. We will complete the deployment of the U900 3G spectrum and launch 4G (LTE) commercially in 16 counties.”
Once again the Safaricom delivered encouraging results and it has also continued to create value for its shareholders, supported by growth across all their revenue streams and focus on cost efficiency.
