The Executive Director for Africa at Thunderbird School of Global Management, Philip Thigo has been appointed the Special Envoy on Technology by the President of Kenya, William Ruto. This is one of the many appointments President Ruto has made today having also appointed 16 women as ambassadors in various countries
With over 20 years’ experience in the fields of technology, public policy, governance, and development, Thigo will be helping the government and country to stay competitive in emerging technology adoption. This is a move set to aid in advancing digital transformation in Kenya which is one of the pioneering countries in tech adoption in Africa.
At Thunderbird School of Global Management, Thigo leads global leadership work in Africa, collaborating with African stakeholders to shape Africa’s leadership in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). He is also an Advisor on Data and Open Government at the Office of the President of Kenya, and a member of the UN Secretary General Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence. He is a globally recognized expert on digital government, women economic empowerment and financial inclusion, open government partnership, digital environmental sustainability, blockchain, and food systems innovation.
Thigo is also a co-founder and steering committee member of several global initiatives and networks, such as the Coalition for Digital Environmental Sustainability (CODES), the Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC), and the Global Partnership on Sustainable Development Data. He has also co-authored insight reports for the World Economic Forum (WEF) on food systems innovation and the 4IR for global public goods.
