The new Mate 9 Huawei flagship device is designed to challenge global market leaders like Samsung even as Samsung struggles with negative publicity following the high-profile recall of its flagship Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. Samsung has since halted productionof Note7 and said it was scrapping the 4.3 million handsets it had already manufactured. Samsung had reported that the recalling will cost it at least £4.4bn ($5.4bn).
Huawei’s new phone also features a “supercharging” battery technology that promises to deliver a day’s worth of power within 30 minutes with up to 58% of charge and a full two-day charge in 90 minutes. However, the company says that through a nine-month development and testing process and had been checked by an independent research lab hence leaving no room for “explosions”.

With the new device Huawei looks into capturing a larger smartphone marketshare.globally. In the latest market research by IDC, Huawei held 9.3 percent of the global market in the second quarter of 2016, placing it third behind Samsung with 22.8 percent and Apple with 11.7 percent.However in China, Huawei holds the number one spot in its home market China.
On Huawei Mate 9, Huawei has also embraced partnerships with a couple of German firms, including Leica for camera lenses. Huawei first partnered with Leica on Huawei P9 device, which Huawei has since sold up to 9 million since its launch in April 2016.

The company has also partnered with Porsche Design for a limited edition version of the Mate 9. As well as Porsche Design branding, the phone will have 256GB of storage, 6GB of RAM and a higher-resolution display. Huawei has yet to confirm where the phone will be available or how many.
The Huawei Mate 9 will cost 699 Euros while the Huawei Porsche Mate9 device will retail at 1395 euros. The company also launched a fit band.
