Moringa, Safaricom, & M-PESA Sign New Partnership
Moringa School, an Ed-Tech powerhouse, has partnered with Safaricom and M-PESA Africa in an initiative aimed at equipping developers across Africa with the skills to build innovative solutions using digital APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). This collaborative effort seeks to accelerate the growth of the M-PESA ecosystem and address the critical shortage of tech talent on the continent.
M-PESA acknowledges the necessity of a highly skilled developer pool to support its expanding ecosystem. This partnership directly tackles the continent’s tech talent gap, where a limited number of developers lead to talent shortages among major players, leaving SMEs and micro-SMEs struggling to access the talent needed to capitalize on the growing smartphone and digital payments market.
“Africa’s digital landscape is thriving, but we require skilled developers to keep up,” emphasizes Fiona Kirua, Acting CEO of Moringa School. “This partnership represents a significant step in our commitment to equipping developers with the skills required to drive innovation in the digital space.”

Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, MD – M-PESA Africa, acknowledges the talent gap, stating, “We are partnering with Moringa School to train more developers across the continent in API and mobile app development. These skills are crucial with the increasing adoption of smartphones and digital financial solutions and will empower more businesses, especially SMEs, to integrate their products and solutions into digital ecosystems like the M-PESA Super App.”
The partnership introduces a tailor-made Moringa School curriculum focused on developing M-PESA mini-apps , a potent tool for businesses and organizations to embed their services within the M-PESA Super App, reaching over 60 million users across Safaricom and Vodacom. Key areas of focus include API development and integration, UI/UX frameworks, and mini-app development.
Furthermore, the collaboration brings forth an extensive certification program. Developers who successfully complete the training will receive certification, recognizing their expertise and enhancing their professional development. This aspect is expected to raise standards and competitiveness within the M-PESA ecosystem.

I am interested
I will be grateful to join the API development team
Hi, this is an excellent idea that will help grow the ICT sector that will help increase the number prommers or application system developers in our country. Do you have sponsors offering scholarships for the training. Iam very much interested but I cannot afford to pay for the course.
