KQ Set To Resume International Flights In August

Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced plans to reduce its routes to 27 and cut the frequency of some flights ahead of resuming international flights on 1st August 2020. It will also drop direct flights to the United States and China.

In an interview KQ Chief Executive Officer, Allan Kilavuka, said that upon resumption, the airline will only fly to 27 routes, half of their total routes. Further noting that the airline will reduce the frequency to some destinations until the demand picks up, which is not expected soon.

“We plan to resume flights to 27 destinations in August. This represents close to 50 percent of our routes pre-COVID,” he concluded.

Although China has emerged as one of the key routes for Kenya Airways and accounted for the largest share of the KSh9.4 billion the carrier raked in from Asia, resumption of the route will be based on demand. Passengers traveling to the United States will now be forced to change planes in Europe or the Gulf.

The carrier will fly twice daily to Addis Ababa, Kigali, and Dar es Salaam, and three times weekly to Zanzibar. It will also operate three weekly flights to London and Mumbai and five weekly flights to Dubai, while flying at reduced frequencies to Amsterdam, Paris, and London.

The airline currently operates 42 aircraft on routes to 56 destinations in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe and North America.
