Amani Kibera, a community based organization located within the Nairobi slum, recently receive donations in the form of e-Readers from an unlikely donor in the form of Accessible Education, another community based organization, in a bid to assist in enhancing education within the slum.
This was announced via a blog post published on Amani Kibera’s official website, whereby appreciation was shown; not only for the donation but also for the fact that it was another local community-based organization that made the donation.
“There is nothing more promising than when local community-based organizations work together, support one another, and make incredible things happen. Accessible Education, an organization based Kibera whose primary goal is to improve student achievement through the use of technology in schools, followed up on a promise to Amani Kibera and has donated 12 e-Readers to our library!” the post reads.

The post further states that this all started when, Ben Ooko, the Founder of Amani Kibera, reached out to Accessible Education for a potential collaboration. After a short site visit to Amani Kibera’s community library, during the now concluded teacher’s strike, by the Accessible Education team, the e-Readers arrived on Friday the 23rd of October.
The organization’s plan is to stock the tablets, which they plan to use for downloading numerous books and reading materials. “Additionally, we will use the tablets for educational videos for both our student-going population as well as the design school student. Showing the women of UWEZO new techniques to make clothes through informative videos will broaden their skill sets and engage them in new and innovative ways,” The post added
“We’re excited to incorporate these new technological devices into our existing programs so that we can enhance our output and engage even more members of the Kibera community,” the post concludes.
