Is Time Ripe For 5G To Better The World?
5G Technology couldn’t have been well justified as was the case at the premier 5G+ Better World Summit hosted virtually to observe the World Health Organization social distancing measure.
Following the unprecedented COVID-19 global pandemic, the timeliness and need to expansively deploy the fifth generation of wireless networks and technologies, popularized as 5G Technology couldn’t have been well justified as was the case at the premier 5G+ Better World Summit hosted virtually to observe the World Health Organization social distancing measure.
Described as a revolutionary technology in the digital transformation journey, 5G lined to undoubtedly disrupt the way people live, and work signaled a spring of intelligence and connections creating a new network of limitless possibilities in diverse sectors.
Huawei Technologies in conjunction with its open collaboration ecosystem partners were categorical that a myriad of crises stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic had affected everyone and industries across the world and since it is still spreading, it requires a digital response.

Visionary speakers at the summit that was graced by several guests were assertive that besides 5G’s immense contribution in the fight against the spread of the COVID-19 crisis, it proved a vital technology for both social health and economic performance.
Peng Song, President of Huawei’s Carrier BG Marketing and Solution Sales Dept., urged the ICT industry champions to uphold togetherness to build a better world.
“This year, global digital transformation will accelerate, meaning both opportunities and challenges for telecom operators and industries. To address these opportunities and challenges, operators must aim for more resilient, automated, and intelligent target networks, and their annual network plans and activities should be geared towards achieving these goals.”

Cornerstone Technology
The summit’s keynote speaker, Shaun Collins, CEO, CCS Insight asserted that owing to 5G’s lower latency and higher capacity in improving lives, the technology emerges as a cornerstone in efforts towards ensuring early diagnosis and treatment of patients.

With 5G, people in remote locations do not need to worry since doctors located several miles away can seamlessly attend to them, Collins said referring to a case study from the University Hospital in Birmingham and the South Central Ambulance Service, which pre-dates the onset of COVID-19.
The 5G technology said Shaun provides tools for managing wireless operator networks from the cloud, such as increasing and decreasing capacity on demand. The platform also offers network-slicing capabilities, a flagship purposed to let providers set parameters for different kinds of traffic on their networks.

UK’s Midlands region is deemed a ‘5G cockpit market’, which means that it is receiving investment from government to trial and showcase solutions that 5G can offer, and healthcare is considered an important area within the trial setup, said Collins.
Remote Workforce
While sharing insights that prompted the government of China and the telecommunications fraternity to aggressively invest and embark on telecommuting, Dr. Su Yu, Deputy Dean of China Mobile Chengdu Industrial Research Institute, said remote workforce using 5G technology, established ways to shorten decision-making that once took hours and days to resolve.
“The ability for healthcare to be agile and embrace technology, demonstrated that capacity was available to reverse the harsh realities, deploy fast changes and make things better,” said Yu.
Stable Telecom Networks
At the event, Huawei released its Whitepaper themed: Technology Against Pandemic: Insights and Practice on Telecom Networks. This Whitepaper provides deep insights into global networks and explains the important role telecom networks have played in the fight against the pandemic.
Stable telecom networks, stated the whitepaper has over the years helped people move vital activities online, such as online education, online shopping, and remote working. This has been the basis of continued learning and production when school and work were suspended.
