Hewlett Packard East Africa Ltd. Winding Up

Hewlett Packard East Africa Limited has filed for insolvency. This happens when a company is unable to meet its financial obligations. The computer stationery supplier wound up by dint of The Insolvency Act 2015 by way of a Special Resolution passed at their Extraordinary General Meeting held on 3 September 2020.

The notice, which was published in a daily, reads, “That the Company be wound up as a Members’ Voluntary Winding-Up and that Messrs George Weru and Muniu Thoithi of P.O.Box 4963-00100 Nairobi, Kenya, be and are hereby appointed Joint Liquidators for the purpose of winding up.” George, a CFA, and Muniu are both partners at PwC.

Hewlett Packard creditors have been instructed to send the full particulars of their claims on or before 9 October 2020. They are further instructed that should it be required, they might be expected to come in and prove their debts or claims.

It discusses intimate conversations had by staff that lead to a commitment to launch a global HPE Inclusion and Diversity Council with the HPE Foundation making a grant to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and HPE pledging to support students scholars in HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities).

He concluded, “I know there’s more that must be done, and I am fully committed to taking action. We won’t be able to solve everything at once, but we will press forward together to create impactful and meaningful change. The time is now. And it starts with us.”

In 2015, the Hewlett Packard Company separated into two separate publicly traded companies – HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). The entity in question is associated with HPE, not to be confused with HP Inc., the computer manufacturing company which uses the blue-coloured HP logo. Hewlett Packard East Africa Ltd. is a computer stationery supplier in Kenya whose offices are located in Capital Hill Square on the 3rd Floor in Upper Hill.

Countless businesses have closed over the past six months as COVID-19 ravages the world economy. While it is not immediately clear if this is why Hewlett Packard East Africa is packing up and leaving, it may also be a major shove towards their insolvency direction.
