Hernovation Partners With Wentors To Mentor Women Into Technology

CIO East Africa’s Hernovation program, a platform to nurture and grow women in the IT Leadership, has today announced a partnership with Wentors, an online global organization geared towards providing women in technology with access to female mentors in the industry.

Done partly as a celebration of the Women in Tech during International Women’s Day, the partnership broadly purposes to offer mentorship to women both already in It and those aspiring to join the field.

Making the announcement, Laura Chite, CEO CIO East Africa and a Co-Founder of Hernovation said, “We (Hernovation) realized a gender disparity in the tech space and embarked on a journey to fill the gap through preparing women for IT Related courses through mentorship.” Adding, “Women in IT will, from this partnership, acquire a one-on-one mentorship to help hone their skills in IT to help them excel at work.”

Laura also noted that apart from the mentorship program, Hernovation is also involved in soft-skills training among four of its tenets.

Wentors will utilize their platform to deliver mentorship to the ladies after conducting a mentor-mentee matching exercise, done by software that uses an algorithm and is conducted based on a career track and personality-based test questions.

“As women in technology, we are passionate to see a reduction in the vast gender disparity within the industry,” said Eduabasi Chukwunweike, Founder of Wentors. “At Wentors, we consider ourselves advocates for gender inclusion and we want to create a community where women support, train, and nurture each other. This is why Wentors exist.”

Together, Hernovation and Wentors believe in the power of women and that every woman can aspire for a role in technology and achieve her goals.

The partnership will build a community of women that supports, trains, and nurtures other women, especially those in technology as a way to fill the gender disparity in that space.

“We cannot leave it to chance and simply assume that the imbalance will improve without deliberate intervention rather we are making efforts to see to it that one day there will be an equal number of men and women at all levels in the technology industry,” added Unoma Adeyemi, co-founder at Wentors.

The gender disparity has made it near impossible for women across the world to gain footing in the tech ecosystem. The partnership aims to see equal numbers of male and female C- suite executives of multibillion-dollar tech companies in the world, starting from Africa.
