Facebook announced today that one of their buy/sell platforms will be rolling out in Kenya. Marketplace allows users to look through listings or search for items near them or in their vicinity. The platform allows users to sell items directly on Facebook. This comes at a time where Facebook is widely regarded as a buying and selling platform as well as a social networking platform.
The tech giant says that it will become available in Kenya gradually and will be available to all Kenyans by the end of November this year.
“We had already seen people buying and selling with each other on Facebook so we decided to launch Facebook Marketplace — a safe and convenient destination in the Facebook app where Kenyans can discover, buy and sell items from people in their community,” Facebook Head of Public Policy for East and Horn of Africa, Mercy Ndegwa said.

Marketplace is not difficult to use. There are guiding icons that allow users to navigate the platform. Safety is also a feature that is never overlooked, if a user has an issue with a person or an item that’s listed, such as violating community standards, harassing behaviour or scams, it’s easy to report to Facebook. The navigation panel allows users to to use a report link that will send the violators profile to fact checkers.
