The Beijing Municipal Bureau of press, publication, radio, film and television has today launched the 2015 Beijing TV Dramas & Movies Broadcasting Exhibition in Kenya.
The 2015 Beijing TV Dramas & Movies Broadcasting Exhibition will feature acclaimed TV shows and blockbuster movies which have been scheduled to air in Kenya in the course of the year.
Speaking during the launch ceremony, Sports, Culture and The Arts Cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario noted that the inter-cultural relations between Chinese people and Kenyans have consistently grown which had led to Chinese TV dramas and movies gaining popularity hence becoming a significant cultural force in building relations between the two countries.

“China remains the country’s strategic partner and enhancing our cultural relations through broadcast content presents a unique platform to reach out to the majority of households thereby enabling our people to understand each other better for mutual economic and social benefits,” noted Dr. Wario.
The Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television Ms. Yang Peili noted that television continues to be a strong medium through which information is pushed across diverse audiences, with the platform progressively nurturing associations with Kenyans which has consequently seen the growth in popularity of Chinese TV dramas and movies.
“The exhibition which typically presents Beijing TV dramas and films will continuously enhance the publicity of the broadcast content in Kenya and Africa at large. An estimated 30 TV dramas and movies will be aired in Kenya and other African countries in the course of the year so as to cement the inter-cultural relations between our African friends and Chinese people,” noted Ms. Peili.

Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television will provide an opportunity for the African viewers to meet the stars of the Young Doctor in Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa with the Bureau directors gracing the respective events to communicate with international production companies in Africa and interview the showcase programs viewers in the aforementioned three countries.
In recent years, the burgeoning TV dramas and films industry has greatly enriched people’s lives with such exhibitions facilitating the local industry to go global while presenting a new milestone in promoting inter-cultural relations between countries.
Pay Television Company StarTimes Media will broadcast the content on their terrestrial and satellite platforms.

The exhibition is a follow up to a similar engagement organized last year by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television where Mr. Guo Jinlong, the member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, attended the ground breaking ceremony when he visited Kenya in July last year.
“These English-dubbed TV dramas have become a popular entertainment choice among our African viewers and we believe we can collectively support respective media production industries for mutual benefit,” concluded Ms. Peili.
